Drawing from life and using nature as our muse fosters compassion and empathy and ultimately reminds us of this interconnectivity. Observational drawing honours the truth in the beauty that is around us.  Not a single subject is without it’s own unique set of characteristics that make it impossible not to be in awe.

I often am asked how to "use green". I think the main concern and observation here is that so many issues with using green lie in the unrealistic tone. The key is to ALWAYS add another colour to make it cooler, more muted, more sunny and ultimately more believable...

A wonderful day spent at the Ottawa Arboretum (almost in my backyard!). After sighting a magnificent Blue heron, all of the trees took on a serpentine look too. Will post the little series from my moleskin journal :)
