Hard cover “Fight or Flight” is a body of work, which in fact started two years ago with a series of first ever self-portraits; FLIGHT. A grant awarded by the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (which recognizes young artists working exclusively in realism) allowed me to nurture the series. Of the utmost significance and timeliness, I was given a chance to share these highly introspective pieces that represent enormous personal and artistic growth.

The titles from Flight refer to “Moulting” or shedding of one’s former self,  “Branching” in gaining independence and “Flight Feathers” in the growth and maturity of coming into one’s own.

Mixed into this series of self-portraits, are those of beasts; the buffalo in “Steadfast” or moose in “This is not an Embrace” all represent a very primitive set of instincts which we all embody but see more evidently in our animal counterparts.

In Fight:

Our respiratory rate increases.

Our pupils dilate.

Our awareness intensifies.

Our sight sharpens.

Our impulses quicken.

Our immune system mobilizes with increased activation.

For me, these animal portraits are a simple extension of my self-portraits; a powerful reminder to persevere and opportunity not just survive, but thrive while migrating towards a better place or sense of self."
